||Mahsa Label is an evolving reflection of my experience of the beauty and imperfection of life. Imbued with values of simplicity, authenticity and strength, the brand is timeless and sustaining — a love letter to women who live with an open heart and feel things true and tenderly.
Dressing is part of our everyday expression. I hope to make daily life more meaningful and romantic – to offer a sense of freedom and optimism in the chaos of modern life – with enduring pieces that balance utility and romance, masculinity and femininity, reality and mystery.
Created in 2015, Mahsa Label fulfilled a personal desire for timeless, trans-seasonal garments that offered an effortless response for living simply and beautifully in a complex time.
The debut collection, Beautiful Imperfection (partly inspired by the Japanese notion of Wabi-Sabi) features trans-seasonal, easy to layer garments in natural fabrics with unfinished edges and earthy tones. I was also largely influenced by the architecture of my modernist home — particularly the timeless nature of its expression. The collection was photographed at home by my long-time collaborator Derek Henderson, who expertly captured a beautifully imperfect antipodean mood.
Yesterday Modern, the second mood, takes a more sartorial approach — juxtaposing masculine tailoring with subtle feminine details in a play of form and romanticism. In reflection of the previous collection, patterns of herringbone, tweed and Liberty print are accented with raw edges, tactile fabrics and natural tones.
Mood three, A Single Woman, follows a narrative of being swept asunder. Photographed at the iconic Brake House — a modernist masterpiece nestled in Titirangi's bushscape — this mood reflects a sense of isolation, with themes of independence and strength. Impelled by the simplicity and ease of masculine style, A Single Woman offers an extension of previous offerings, including gentleman shirting, playful dresses, a romantic sleeved trench and oversized blazers in tweed.
Each new mood is a continuous process of refining, redefining and reimagining. New iterations are inspired in collaboration with my stockists as well as all those who love to wear Mahsa Label.
