Founded in 2015, Mahsa Label is an evolving reflection of my experience of the beauty and imperfection of life. Imbued with values of simplicity, authenticity and strength, the brand is timeless and sustaining — a love letter to women who live with open hearts and feel things true and tenderly.

Dressing is part of our everyday expression. I hope to make daily life more meaningful and romantic – to offer a sense of freedom and optimism in the chaos of modern life – with timeless and trans-seasonal pieces that balance utility and romance, masculinity and femininity, reality and mystery.

The debut collection, Beautiful Imperfection (partly inspired by the Japanese notion of wabi-sabi) features trans-seasonal, easy to layer garments in natural fabrics with unfinished edges and earthy Antipodean tones. I was influenced by the timeless architecture of my modernist home —and the collection was expertly photographed there by Derek Henderson.

Yesterday Modern, the second mood, takes a more sartorial approach — juxtaposing masculine tailoring with subtle feminine details in a play of form and romanticism. In reflection of the previous collection, patterns of herringbone, tweed and Liberty print are accented with raw edges, tactile fabrics and natural tones.

Mood #3, A Single Woman, follows a narrative of being swept asunder. Photographed at the iconic Brake House — a modernist masterpiece nestled in Titirangi's bushscape — this mood captures a sense of isolation, with themes of independence and strength. Impelled by the simplicity and ease of masculine style, A Single Woman extends previous offerings, including gentleman shirting, playful dresses, a romantic sleeved trench and oversized blazers in tweed.

The eternal resilience and beauty of nature through change and catastrophe comes to the fore in Mood #4: Enduring Nature. In our imagery, our muse contemplates nature’s lessons in the earthy warmth of her home. She dresses simply, with a nod to pieces of the past with enduring appeal – a sailor collar here; a modern take on traditional men’s suiting there; waistcoats and trenches that hark back to romantic films of her childhood. Enveloped by nature, she draws strength from it to feed her own resilience.

Each new mood is a continuous process of refining, redefining and reimagining. New iterations are inspired in collaboration with stockists, as well as all those who love to wear Mahsa Label.
